Every 1-3 Years- Variables: Maintenance practices, field use, field design/site drainage, surface composition, acceptable tolerance, etc.
Baseball and softball fields in and around Minnesota typically have infield "dirt" that is comprised (at least mostly) of aggregate limestone aka aglime, or agg. lime. Although aglime has a very good track record of being very maintenance friendly, these infield surfaces can still form low areas, washouts,or wear areas that make the field less safe, and cause standing water in low spots. Our professional methods and equipment will re-shape this surface to be safe for players as well as promote better drainage, so the field can be played on more quickly after rain events. Depending on the severity of issues on the infield, this service is typically a very quick and budget-friendly method of maintenance on infields.
Every 5-15 Years- Variables: Field drainage, maintenance practices, surface composition, acceptable tolerance, budget, etc.
Aged baseball and softball fields can become unsafe over time, when their grass edges become raised "lips" that can cause ankle injuries, become a tripping hazard, and can act like a ramp when the ball hits them, causing bad hops. Our methods and equipment make these lip removal repairs as painless as possible. All our equipment is "turf-friendly" by design, so we can focus on making professional repairs to the field, while minimizing impact to surrounding areas.
Every 15-25 Years- Variables: Original field design, native soil composition, field drainage, maintenance practices, surface composition, acceptable tolerance, budget, etc.
Older baseball fields can become unsafe over time and become wet and unplayable after rain events. If raised lips are not addressed on a regular basis, and the aglime surface continues to get higher, the grass infield can become a sort of "bowl" that holds water. Our methods and equipment make these reconstruction projects as painless as possible, but the end result is virtually a brand new infield! When we're planning and performing an infield reconstruction, we like to address any and all issues with the field at that time. We start by surveying the infield and surrounding areas, including drainage patterns. Next, we strip the entire grass portion of the infield, as well as any raised lips along base paths, home plate area, and the outfield arc. Then we adjust the infield elevation/grade, adding or amending soil as needed. This is also a good time to address existing issues by renovating the pitching mound and home plate areas/batters boxes, replacing base anchors, and any other issues the field may have. These projects produce an amazing end result without having to break the bank! We work with every customer to provide a customized project that corrects existing issues in a functional and cost effective manner.
We have sprayers, custom designed to spray aglime infield and warning track areas with precision and effectiveness in mind. We can kill existing vegetation without ANY drift or "off-target" application, meaning we will not kill any grass/vegetation we didn't intend to! The application also includes prevention of most weeds/grasses for up to 3-5 months of control! This is a very cost effective way of managing infields and warning tracks throughout the busy season, as well as the off-season.
Healthy turfgrass is one of the best ways to help prevent player injuries!
It also helps with weed control, minimizing wear spots, and minimized downtime after rain events.
Our staff provides a full spectrum of turf health maintenance options for natural turf areas. We have the ability to provide detailed and prescriptive soil amendment programs, based on soil sampling and scientific nutrient plans, as well a range of fertilizer options depending on the site, use, and budget.
Magic Turf has a great reputation for installing high quality natural turfgrass in many applications. We have successful ground preparation methods, seeding and sodding techniques, and maintenance plans that lead to amazing results!
